Dollymount Beach Bathing Probition
Councillor Deirdre Heney wishes to advise constituents that Dublin City Council received notification from Irish Water that there had been a significant overflow from the storm storage tanks at the Ringsend Wastewater treatment plant into the River Liffey during the early hours of this morning, Friday 9th August. This was as a result of adverse weather conditions and significant rainfall over the Dublin area last night.
There are three bathing beaches in Dublin City at Dollymount, Merrion and Sandymount beaches. Dublin City Council has consulted with the EPA and the HSE and is issuing bathing prohibitions on all three beaches based on this information and notices will be placed at the three locations and on the Council’s website. The Council will continue to monitor water quality at each of these bathing waters and keep the public informed of bathing water quality in accordance with the Bathing Water Quality Regulations 2008. The Council regrets this weather based event and will lift the prohibition notices as soon as the water quality results are at the required standard, in consultation with the EPA and the HSE.
The Council notes that season long bathing water prohibitions are already in place at both Merrion and Sandymount strands and that these will remain in place.
