New Light Boxes in place to help animate Smithfield Square
21 June, 2021
Councillor Heney wishes to advise constituents that Dublin City Council has installed light boxes in Smithfield Square to help animate the space and enhance people’s outdoor dining experience.
A total of 10 light boxes have been installed, with each containing images of paintings and sculptures from the Hugh Lane Gallery. There is a mix of the Gallery’s favourite paintings and some lesser-known pieces by Irish and international artists.
Each box is 1.8 metres high, solar-powered, and has a QR code providing more information about each painting. The images are easily visible both day and night.
This trial initiative may become a permanent addition to Smithfield Square and may also be installed in other parts of the City.
