Understanding dementia
Deirdre Heney is really pleased that her motion to bring about a dementia inclusive city was recenlty passed by Dublin City Council. Deirdre said that “this is a another positive step by the City Council towards the normalisation of the disease, and its a further step in my campaign to make life less painful for those living with dementia in our society.” As the first part of this particular initiative, the Council’s Chief Executive, Owen Keegan has agreed to make dementia awareness training available to City Council staff, beginning with those who interact face to face with memebers of the public, and the training will be done in conjunction with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
See below a short film from the Alzheimer Society of Ireland ‘Learn, Listen, Link, (in collaboration with the HSE) about how understanding the disease can help people living with dementia, live well for longer in their communities.
